Fifth Edition, "corrected and augmented by the author." 12mo:[14],158,[8]pp, with woodcut pantograph in text. Beautifully bound in period full speckled calf, spine richly gilt in five compartments divided by raised bands, expertly rebacked; edges speckled red, woodcut device on the title page. An excellent copy of this scarce treatise on the technique of painting miniatures and the illumination of books and manuscripts, and on mixing "beautiful colors," credited to the French artist who devised the oldest known chromatic circles, or color wheels. Bound with a second seventeenth-century work on the symbolic meaning of colors, presumably OCLC Number: 42621914 (no imprint on the title page, but from format [12mo] and pagination [78pp] the edition published in Amsterdam, by J. Sambix, in 1690, and usually attributed to Marc de Vulson de la Colombière. Both titles quite scarce. Province: blind stamp of Royal College of Art Library to title pages. N. B.
