First edition in English. Full contemporary calf respined in old calf. (1) 393 (1). Binding somewaht rubbed and somewhat rounded at the tips, shallow cracking to the upper gutters. Deaccession stamp lower margin of the preface page. Internally generally clean, p.49/50 roughly opened; aprox 2" square piece of the rear free endpaper removed. Barely visible ownership signature dated at Calcutta, 14 Oct, 1812 on front free endpaper. Secretary of the Russian foreign embassy relates the story of his travels during a six-month journey in stages from Vienna to Jassy, then to the interior of the Crimea (today's Ukraine), through Poland to Petersburg and thence to Constantinople. The embassy spent some time in Constantinople andtwo of the final three sections of the work describe their stay in the capital and the "curiosities" they encountered. Bookseller Inventory # E10289
