He served as ambassador for France to the Morea in what is now southern Greece. This work is the result of his extensive studies and travels in the region. His residency was in Tripolitza (now Tripolis), an ancient city that served as the Ottoman administrative center for lower Greece. The city was deliberately destroyed in 1825, and consequently rebuilt. With a frontis. engraved illustration of native costumes, a copperplate engraved folding plate of Tripolitza, a copperplate engraved folding view of the Castle of the Seven Towers in Constantinople, and a folding table of Territorial Productions of the Morea. *** Bound in a brown calf spine (re-backed) and marbled paper boards.
