About this Item

xxv, 818p, illustrations. 24cm. First edition. Bound in beveled maroon cloth with titling in gilt on the spine. Covers stained, soiled, minor wear to spine ends; occasional foxing. In better than good condition. This copy from the Hatcher Grocery Company, Union Bottling Works, Columbus, Ohio, which was created by Claud A. Hatcher who in 1903, as a pharmacist, formulated beverages for his customers including Royal Crown Ginger Ale, Cream Soda, Melo fruit drinks, Nehi soft drinks and eventually Royal Crown Cola. By 1925 several hundred franchised plants throughout the South and Midwest produced and bottled his drinks. Royal Crown Cola was the first cola produced in cans, the first local company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and the first to produce a calories free cola, Diet Rite. The Royal Crown Company is now third in the $50 billion dollar soft drink industry. Bookseller Inventory # 19831
