About this title

Synopsis:

This fun and challenging game teaches U.S. history and geography. Want to travel across the fifty states and find out what made our country great? Grab your maps and get ready to trek across America. By answering questions about U.S. government, history, physical geography, and economic geography, students "capture" states, trying to be the first person to cross the country. This engaging game will be a favorite way for students to match wits with their classmates while they review facts about our country. This game can be played individually or in groups. Grades 6-9

About the Author:

Cindy Slovacek received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a specialization in physical education from Southwest Texas State University. She has been teaching for 27 years. Cindy teaches sixth grade social studies, seventh grade Texas history, eighth grade American history and physical education in grades Kindergarten through eight. She has written the teaching unit Open for Business, and the history game Trek Across America. Her philosophy is that teaching should be student oriented. She believes that if a student is having fun and is involved in the activity, he/she will enjoy learning as well as retain the information better. She also believes that as teachers, our major goal is to develop responsibility and good citizens for the future. Students need to take responsibility for their learning, and this is encouraged if they are involved in activities that are fun as well as educational.
