A key legal case, in which the 'not guilty' verdict became part of Scots law, in addition to 'proven' and 'not proven'. Carnegie had been accused of murdering Charles Lyon, Earl of Strathmore, when the latter interposed himself in a fight with another man and was run-through by Carnegie.
