About this title

Synopsis:

“The Trials of Carrie Buck” is based upon the true story of a naïve, 16-year-old girl who is branded as “feebleminded” and put into an institution, where her captors petition for her medical sterilization, against the protests of an outraged nurse. Carrie ultimately becomes the subject of a landmark Supreme Court case. Carrie's story is shocking, thought-provoking and memorable due to its historic references to the thriving pre-World War II eugenics movement in the United States that argued, with calculated and chilling logic, that selective breeding and sterilization was a necessity if the human race was to survive.

About the Author:

The author has a Bachelors Degree from Waynesburg University, a Masters Degree from Indiana University, a Juris Doctor Degree (magna cum laude) from Duquesne University School of Law and a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) from Georgetown University Law School. He practiced law for over twenty years. He now devotes much of his time to writing in the areas of public education, civil rights and social commentary. The author's crusade for reform in public education was profiled in the May 14, Sunday edition of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. In addition to numerous local and regional newspapers, the author has also been interviewed in Lawyers Weekly USA (April 2, 2002) and Pennsylvania Law Weekly (February 6, 2006).
