About this title

In a high-tech, high-security world where bioterrorism threatens to cripple the ecosystem, magic is the last thing on anyone’s mind.

Something bad is happening to the world. Trees are dying. Cancer is on the rise and becoming more aggressive. When Kelsa’s father dies of the disease, science offers no answers.

Then, fifteen-year-old Kelsa meets the most beautiful boy she’s ever seen. But he’s also very strange. Claiming to be a mythological Raven, he goes on about magic, impending ecological disaster, and his need for Kelsa’s help to save the world.

Maybe he’s crazy. But what if he’s telling the truth?

From the Author:

Writers always get to do the most fun research, because we can't just read about something--we have to actually do it, to find out what it sounds/smells/tastes/feels like.  For Trickster's Girl, and its sequel Traitor's Son, I had to do the most fun research I've ever done for any book--I had to drive from Utah to Alaska, and then explore Alaska--which is the most fabulously gorgeous place!  A lot of the things Kelsa does in Trickster's Girl were things I did myself, including; wandering through icy and pitch dark lava tunnels with a totally inadequate flashlight, wading thigh deep in freezing lakes, and wandering oh-so-casually out of sight of the ranger to sneak under the Do Not Pass tape and lay hands on the glacier.  (I didn't climb on it, which was what they were really worried about, so I wasn't really doing anything illegal.  Honest, Ms. Ranger, ma'am.)  So if those scenes, and many of the others, feel real, well, it's because I went to those places and did those things.  Except for the magic, and being chased by homicidal enemies, of course.
