About this title

Synopsis:

Book one of Trouble in the Triangle contains the first two volumes. The first, traces developments within the three Abrahamic faiths from the occupation of Jerusalem about sixty years before the birth of Christ by a Roman gener al, Pompey, to the occupation of the city by a British general, Allenby, in 1917 in the wake of the Balfour Declaration. It traverses the growth of the church, t he development and abuse of its doctrines which provided the stimulus for the ministry of the Prophet Muhammad, the rise of Islam and the completion of a triangle of Abrahamic Messianic faiths. It then discusses the interaction between the three faiths during a long period of Christianization by the sword, Crusades and Inquisitions, scientific and philosophical challenges, the Reformation, the European Colonial Era, and a rash of revolutions and anti-Semitism. The second volume discusses the state of Europe as the Western Alliance sought to suppress the Bolshevik Revolution; the embryonic Ecumenical Movement and the Vatican's campaign to secure concordats; Hitler 's parody of the amorphous Christian gel of religion, politics and racism; Britain's effort to conceal the threat to its empire, the failed Evian Conference and Munich as a prelude to the Second World War.

From the Author:

Wherever we turn we come face to face with the trouble in the triangle, so it inevitably leads us back to the question of whether to take a deliberate step to dismantle it through fundamental theological reassessment, starting with the doctrine of the Trinity.

What is the alternative? To decide not to proceed would condemn the world to the continuation of the trauma of recent years, but on an ever increasing scale. There should be no doubt about that. Is that what the believers in each of the faith communities want? I hardly think so. Surely no one would regard the present circumstances as the first stepping stone on the path to salvation. And because it all started with a definition of the Messiah, it cannot be dismantled without starting at the same point. We are at a turning point in world history. Humanity hasn’t been around for very long, but its got a long time to go! Its history is still before us. The past is only something to help us understand the future.
