About the Author:

Joan Carpenter Troccoli is Deputy Director of the Denver Art Museum and is a former Director of the Thomas Gilcrease Institute of American History and Art in Tulsa.

Dr. Troccoli received her Ph.D. From the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. She has published articles, essays, and exhibition catalogs on numerous nineteenth-century painters of the American West and has also written on contemporary artists such as Jasper Johns.
