Synopsis: Jim Small's experience in the HOA management industry is filled with innumerable trials and tribulations. He takes you on his personal journey starting his own HOA management company, experiencing the highest highs of winning his first client, hiring that great employee, leasing his first office and successfully closing several rounds of financing. However like most entrepreneurs, he also experiences the lowest lows including losing important clients, struggling to make payroll, having computers crash at the worst possible times and losing critical employees right when he became totally dependent on them. In the middle of his detailed adventure, personal tragedy struck as doctors told him that his oldest daughter was not developing normally. Then while struggling to save his company, his daughter's situation worsened as she developed seizures and showed no signs of recovery. The subsequent business turnaround that he led was gut wrenching but driven by a higher purpose to obtain the funds to pay for his daughter's medical treatments. By the time he sold his HOA management company, he had gone from the brink of bankruptcy to building a multi-million dollar business. Now he shares the lessons he learned in the school of HOA Hard Knocks with readers so that they can benefit from the easy to grasp, but often hard to implement business techniques that helped him ultimately achieve success and have the wealth to help his daughter.
