About this Item

The last of London's books published during his lifetime. Macmillan, First edition, with 1916 date listed on both title and copyright pages, on latter "published September 1916" (stated). Book is Very good, with tight binding, firm text block, corners bumped. In NEW facsimile DJ. Mauve/orange boards with yellow titles. Palm tree on front in black with orange decorations. Untrimmed foredges. Verso of front with ink strikeover and small red stamp of Oct 2 1916. First endpaper clipped. 268 numbered pages five plus of advertisements. All other pages are unmarked and clean. Eight classic Jack London stories, "The Eternity of Forms," "Told in the Drooling Ward," "The Hobo and the Fairy," "The Prodigal Father," "The First Poet," "Finis," and "The End of the Story." This volume has become increasingly hard to find in recent years, and this is a relatively strong copy. The above info is based in part on an article on London's works in "Firsts" Magazine, March/April 2015. The author, "Firsts" Publisher Robin H. Smiley, estimates current value of "The Turtles of Tasman" as $350-600 for first editions WITHOUT dust wrappers in Very Good or better condition. I accept Mr. Smiley as an authority on first editions, so if he's right this copy is a bargain. Bookseller Inventory # 150419
