33 page double spaced typewritten manuscript containing "6 specimen chapters. Each about 2000 words", with title page in script by the author, 8 1/4 x 13 1/2", no date, ca. 1920s. Folded once, covers quite darkened, some corrections in author's hand throughout. Includes six folk tales beginning with "How Bro' the Cunning Fell into his own Trap" about a deer mouse helping a dog get a monkey to repay a small loan. Also "How the Tiger got his Stripes", "How the Croton-Tree Came to Malaya" and others. Banner (1891-1964) was born in England. A writer on a wide range of subjects, he worked in business and government in Malaysia from 1913-34. He emigrated to Canada after World War II and at the time of his death was living in Oakland, California. He wrote a good number of books on Malaysia/Indonesia, but it is not readily apparent that this manuscript was ever published.
