Houghton, Mifflin and Company, MA. This regiment was one Fox’s Fighting 300 Regiments. From its ranks came Generals Bartlett, Macy, Wm R. Lee, Francis Palfrey, Paul J. Revere, Charles L. Peirson and Charles A. Whittier. Oliver Wendall Holmes also served in its ranks. The unit fought in almost every major battle of the Army of the Potomac, throughout the war they lost over 400 men. Nevins says: “An underrated, comprehensive unit history containing an admirable blend of the personal, statistical and factual.” The 20th Massachusetts Infantry was referred to as “The Harvard Regiment” due to its abundance of Harvard students and graduates. Good copy of the first edition. The spine has wear on both the upper and lower tabs. The spine’s gilded lettering has faded. The title page is stamped “Union Club, Boston May 30, 1906”. 519 pages.
