About this Item

Fo. (12 1/2" x 9 5/8"). Twenty engravings of scenes from Dickens by an Australian artist Two title pages, one engraved and one letterpress. An introduction and the 20 engravings, designed and etched by Christopher Coveny. Interleaved between the engravings are the pages of text within borders and including quotatrions from the novels. Plate 7 is presented in two states. The volume is printed by John Sands for the publisher. The printing of the etchings was supervised by C. M. Buck. The etchings are enjoyably busy and witty and depict memorable scenes from the novels involving many characters from Dickens' earlier novels, including Samuel Pickwick, Mr. Winkle, Horatio Fizkin, Martin Chuzzlewit, Barnaby Rudge Bill Sykes, Little Nell, et al. A scarce title. Few spots on covers. Mild wear at edges of spine. Foxing of free end papers and some of the text pages. Else, Very Good. Podeschi H1042. Half brown morocco and light brown moire silk covered boards. Front cover titled in gilt. Gilt rulings on covers and spine. T.e.g. Bookseller Inventory # 10147
