Book Description Bobbs Merrill, Indianapolis, 1934. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Very Good Plus. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. Early Printing. SIGNED by Burgess with his name and address. Charming, old-fashioned mystery in mildly soiled sturdy red boards with bright gilt lettering, Another man's name stamp has been crossed out by Burgess and his own name written instead. The book is covered in a flawless facsimile jacket, so presents like new. Basis for the Anthony Mann-directed film noir starring Tom Conway filmed in the 1940s. Bugess was infamous for penning the comic poem "Purple Cow", to his everlasting regret. Extremely RARE title, in any kind of jacket, especially signed. Bookseller Inventory # 026807

Book Description Ivor Nicholson and Watson, London, 1934. Cloth. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Vasco Lazzolo (illustrator). First Edition. The book is reasonably firmly bound in clean orange cloth, lettered in black, the extremities are a little bumped and rubbed. The text block is slightly foxed and toned, but free from inscriptions. The dust jacket is the original, it is price clipped and slightly grubby, wiith fading to the spine, also minor chips and closed tears to the edges, some repaired with tape to the reverse, the rear flap looks as though a sliver may have been cut off. An unusual crime thriller, in which a man suffering from amnesia is unsure whether he may have committed a murder, he is helped by two women, a millionaires daughter and a poor chorus girl. It was twice adapted for the screen, notably as a film noir of the same name in the 1940s. A rarity as a U.K. first edition, particularly so in the original dust jacket.
