Synopsis: From the Preface: The purpose of this book is to challenge Christians, especially Lutheran pastors and lay people, to accept their citizenship responsibilities at this crucial time in our nation's history. My hope is that the book will serve as a research tool to help the reader better understand the nature and seriousness of the threats we face. The subjects addressed are controversial and produce strongly held opinions. The discussion of how difficult it is for a radically divided government and country effectively to confront these serious threats is based in part on personal experience. I have labored to be as objective as possible without sacrificing any of my own strongly held convictions. Not one ounce of energy has been wasted on being "politically correct." On the other hand, I believe the Lord I strive to serve expects me always to "speak the truth in love." So, I have agonized over choosing words that accurately record the facts at my disposal without giving offense to any who disagree with my conclusions. This is not an easy task! The two threats I address are 1) the war declared on America by radical Islamist terrorists, and 2) the "cultural war" being waged by radical secularists on the traditional moral and spiritual foundations of our country. The first war I discuss is of relatively recent appearance on American soil, but the Muslim-Christian struggle stretches over almost 14 centuries. The second threat, the secularists' war, began with a few skirmishes shortly after our nation's founding, reached the serious planning stages in the early part of the 20th century, and began in earnest in the 1940s. The success of either of these two wars would destroy our way of life passed on to us by our forefathers.
