Half title. Original paper boards, paper spine label. Hinges cracked, corners and spine extremities worn, light soiling to boards. Bookplate and bookseller's stamp on front pastedown. Light scattered foxing. Very good, in original condition. Untrimmed. In a half morocco and cloth slip case and chemise. This important work was written by a prosperous British farmer who travelled with his family from the Isle of Wight in 1819. After landing in Baltimore and trekking across the South, he settled in one of the British colonies in southeastern Illinois, of which he gives an excellent account. Included herein are extracts from his journal of the trip to his new home. The frontispiece map shows the state of Illinois, the southern portion fo the Northwest Territory, and a large part of Indiana. Copies with all maps are uncommon. STREETER SALE 1437. CLARK II:71.
