After a distinguished U.S. Army career that included World War One service, this general was appointed superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1940, then named commander of the I Corps in the Southwest Pacific in 1942, where his troops experienced many notable and bloody victories through the war's end. TLS, 1p, 6¼" X 7", Ashville, NC, 1952 December 18. Addressed to William C. Chase. Good plus. Vertical fold near right edge; several smallish stains (scotch tape?) near bottom, not affecting text. Cordial note to an acquaintance, reading in part: "Don't think for a minute that we have forgotten you, but we seldom go to New York, and when we do I find that the family has made a complete schedule. Some time I hope that we can go down to see you and have a bit of a visit and a real talk." Boldly signed in full. A nice example. Bookseller Inventory # 40792
