Newsletter which details Nicolson's preliminary research for his painting (stapled together at top corner); signature and brief handwritten notes/corrcetions in black ink (ever-so slightly smudged); pages very lightly creased at corners, but paper very clean/bright). Two Typed Letters Signed from one Maurice Anspach (of Brussels) to writer, Rowland Ryder (author of Biographies of Nurse Edith Cavell (pub. 1975)/General Oliver Leese/General von Ravenstein, etc.), in response to Ryder's requests for information regarding researches for his Cavell biography. [1] - TLS (with the printed name of Maurice Anspach, and dated 24th Sept., 1965) in which he describes the changing layouts of Avenue Louise in Brussels over the years, and mentions that 'Edith Cavell took the children to play within the Bois de la Cambre.' (two leaves, typed to recto; stapled together at top corner; leaves have horizontal creases; browning (from rusty staple) to top corners, but paper bright; signature (green ink) bright). [2] - TLS (with the printed name of Maurice Anspach, and dated 8th April, 1966) in which he says he tried to photocopy 'the menus you saw, on which are [Nurse] Cavell's drawings, but it wasn't very successful, so I had them photographed.' One of these photographs (in bw.) is present, and accompanies this letter; it shows a menu (for 21st Feb., 1895) with, in the bottom corner, a drawing of a windmill in a grassy landscape (letter is one leaf, typed to recto; paper lightly creased at edges, but clean/bright; signature (green ink) bright; photo. very clean/crisp/bright).
