Description:

The White House Press Secretary for John F. Kennedy and (briefly) Lyndon B. Johnson served briefly as appointed U.S. Senator from California in 1964, but failed to win reelection; he served as Robert Kennedy's campaign manager in 1968, and after RFK's assassination moved to France and became an ABC News correspondent. TLS, 1p, 7" X 10", Los Angeles, CA, 1966 November 17. Addressed to Marshall E. Bean. Near fine. On letterhead of "Continental Airlines" (which lists him as Vice President International Affairs), Salinger tells an admirer that "Unfortunately, I do not have any autographs of President Kennedy." More interesting, though, is this comment about his boss: "I think one of the interesting aspects of President Kennedy's life is that he lived in great pain most of the time and still was able to lead his country in the inspirational manner in which he did." Boldly signed in black fineline. Bookseller Inventory # 34187
