About this Item

52 p.; 24 cm. Under the main title: Religionsphilosophie der Kultur : zwei Entwurfe, these two lectures appeared, probably in 1920 (the usual date given and that printed on the wrapper, not present), but 1919 is printed on the title-page itself. -- `Inhalt. Vorwort. 1. (p. [3]) -- Years later Tillich spoke briefly of this lecture: `Religion, like God, is omnipresent; its presence, like that of God, can be forgotten, neglected, denied. But it is always effective, giving inexhaustible depth to life and inexhaustible meaning to every cultural creation. A first, somewhat enthusiastic, expression of this idea was given in a lecture.' (Protestant era, 1948, p. xv f.) [An English translation: `On the idea of a theology of culture', by William Baillie Green, appears in Tillich's What is religion?, edited by James Luther Adams, 1969, p. 155-181; Adams, in his Paul Tillich's philosophy of culture, science, and religion, 1965, devotes p. 68-94 to an exposition of this lecture.] Good green binder's cloth.
