Hardcover in navy blue cloth lettered in gilt. 343 pp. A fine, tight bright example. In its ORIGINAL (not facsimile) dust jacket, small chip at head and small peel spot foot of spine strip. Mid-40s reissue of the collection of the first 18 of Post's "Uncle Abner" mystery short stories. The stories began appearing in periodicals in 1911 with this collection first published in 1918. It is a Queen's Quorum 100 title. The title character is a righteous county squire of pre-Civil War (West) Virginia who rode about the mountains righting wrongs and using his investigative talents to bring about justice the the strange cases brought to him. Critics hailed Post's stories as the best, most original American detective short stories since Poe. No first editions in jacket appear in the market as of this listing.
