First edition. Large 8vo in dark olive cloth decorated and lettered in gilt and red. Patterned endpapers. xiv+ 424 pp. plus publiher's catalogue at rear. Appendix list of Medal of Honor winners, their rank, company, organization, place and date of action for which medal was awarded and reason for the award. With 19 full page illustrations, 45 portraits, and 32 miscellaneous illustrations. The first book on the Medal of Honor, containing first-hand accounts of recipients from the first of the awards by Lincoln during the Civil War through 1886. Very good, tight example, shallow loss along the spine ends and a small strip of lost cloth and wear spot lower portion of the spine. Lower front corner has narrow oss and covers are somewhat dulled.
