An attractive Very Good copy of the First Edition in original publisher's cloth, housed in a very sturdy custom grey & blue cloth clamshell case. Cloth hard cover binding decorated in blue on the front panel & spine, still crisp & legible; cloth shows ageing overall, but not abused; corners turned or bumped slightly. Text tinted blue on the top edge, untrimmed on the other edges. Endpapers clean & unmarked; hinges are not split. Tinted paper used throughout, with special illustrations printed on matt white or heavy vellum; titled overlays throughout. 162 plates, a few in color, printed in various mediums. One white plate shows a bit of yellowing at the top edge. Frontispiece photogravure portrait of Beardsley. Another example of the high standards of John Lane & Bodley Head publishing. Overall a really nice copy, showing careful handling & light usage, well preserved in an attractive cloth case [with a custom printed paper label on the spine]. Includes caricature of Beardsley by Max Beerbohm, facsimiles of letters & sketches by Beardsley, some reproduced herein for the first time. This title published in a uniform series with The Early Work of Aubrey Beardsley & The Later Work of Aubrey Beardsley. Measures 9" by 11.3", 2.1" thick, a quite heavy volume.
