19th-century journal of a 10 year old girl's encounters with life in, among other locales, New Orleans, Havana and New York City. Published in 1866 for the benefit of the Children's Ward in St. Luke's Hospital at the corner of 5th Ave. and 54th St., Manhattan. Journal includes St. Luke's textual content. Charming engravings throughout, including a full-page frontis and full-page engraving of the first St. Luke's Hospital, which opened in 1858. Both tissue guards intact. Bound in dark-brown cloth with gilt lettering and floral decorations to spine panel. Three copies only in WorldCat library database. Scarce. 106 pp. 6" x 4". Complete as issued. Tight copy with moderate shelf wear, bumped corners with cloth penetration and small areas of loss to head and tail of spine panel.
