About this title

Synopsis:

She’s desperately in need of a promotion and nearly bankrupt from her recent divorce. But for history professor Merran Scofield, an enforced class assignment takes her away from her current research in San Francisco, landing her unexpectedly in her Australian hometown of Wirrim. There she’ll have a chance to brush up on local history, attend a class reunion, see her mother, and, reluctantly, her dying father.

Meanwhile Merran’s high school rival, Owen Griffiths, has discovered a family secret in the form of a newspaper clipping from the early 1930s. It is a gruesome tale of a mother who shot her three children and herself—a case that Owen hopes will help resurrect his struggling career.

But Owen hasn’t counted on Merran’s obsession with the details and her attempts to hijack “his” case. After her intense interest prompts a series of disturbing childhood flashbacks, Merran becomes even more determined to discover the truth behind this unthinkable crime.

As the pieces of the puzzle begin to come together, the pair of history buffs finally unite to dig through decades of information...and deal with their own personal and professional issues along the way.
