About this title

Synopsis:

In Bill Yake's second collection of poetry, he begins in his home territory just south of Puget Sound and circles outwards from the Olympic Mountains to Papua New Guinea, from the Neolithic to last year, from irony to philosophy. These poems explore natural phenomena, human interactions, habitats and landscapes with the eye of a naturalist and an ear tuned to the music of language . The work unfolds with surprise, humor, and imagination. Enjoy.

About the Author:

A native and resident of Washington State, Bill Yake has worked lookouts, fought forest fires, recorded previously unreported Olympic mountain butterflies, diagnosed malfunctioning sewage treatment plants, suffered bureaucracies, run a sub-three hour marathon, authored the Washington State Dioxin Source Assessment, and plays a little country folk guitar . He holds degrees in Zoology, Environmental Science, and Environmental Engineering. His poetry appears in numerous magazines and anthologies serving the literary and environmental communities; it has been awarded the national Alligator Juniper Award (2003) and the James M. Snydal Prize (2004) for poetry. Yake s first full-length collection, This Old Riddle: Cormorants and Rain, was published by Radiolarian Press in 2004. Bill lives with his wife, Jeannette Barreca, just north of Olympia WA, on the verge of Green Cove Ravine.
