Franklin Hudson Publishing Co., MO. Britton spent 30 years in the War and Interior Departments in Washington and was a member of the 6th Kansas Cavalry during the war. The only Union brigade made up of Indians consisted of three regiments from the Cherokees, Creeks and Seminoles in the summer of 1862. The brigade, "with a contingent of a battalion and a battery of white troops, captured and occupied Fort Gibson in the spring of 1863, and held it to the close of the war.In the Confederate service there were thirteen regiments, two squadrons and one battalion of Indians organized from the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole nations." --quote from the prospectus.
