Presented to Dr. Hans Frank on the occasion of his visit at the special exhibition (Sonderschau) "Das Handwerk des Generalgouvernments im Dienste der Kriegswirtschaft" at the Werbestelle des Generalgouvernments in Berlin, Unter den Linden. The Werbestelle was opened on 12 November 1941 for the purpose of educating the German people on the cultural, artistic and economic developments in Poland under German occupation. The Nazis advertised the occupied territories through exhibitions and other cultural events with the idea that Germans would travel to Poland and spent their vacations there.Elephant folio (16" x 20"). Unpaginated (Cardstock with 31 original mounted photographs, 2 drawings (on photo-paper), dedication & presentation leaves, 3 text pages, one architectural plan & one blank leaf). Brown velvet-covered boards with richly golden embroidered "Hoheitsadler" and meticulously laid-down letters in gold "Dem Generalgouerneur Reichsminister Dr. Hans Frank gewidmet," all within golden silk brocade decorated with over 250 small Swastikas (Hakenkreuztresse). Bound with decorative brown string. Binding protected by modern mylar. First leaf with finely calligraphic brown lettering "Der Besuch des Generalgouverneurs Reichsminister Dr. Frank," above the coat of arms of Krakow, which was painted in red & brown watercolors. Following page with calligraphic dedication to Frank, signed by Reichsamtsleiter Dr. Heuber, followed by 31 original b/w mounted photographs showing Frank with entourage at the exhibition as well as various sections of the exhibition with objects shown. Photographs measure an average of 4 1/2" x 6 3/4", some slightly varying in size. Photos with calligraphic captions, accompanied by delicate drawings in watercolors. Pages with photographs interleaved with few text leaves, architectural plan of exhibition rooms (slightly smaller than cardstock pages), a drawing of the exterior of the "Werbestelle des Generalgouvernments" and a drawn plan of the exhibition grounds. Latter two on glossy paper-covered cardstock.Hans Frank was a German lawyer who worked for the National Socialist German Workers Party during the 1920's and 1930's. After Hitler was appointed chancellor in January 1933, Frank became the chief jurist (Reichsminister) of the Third Reich and later, during World War II ,was promoted to "Generalgouverneur" in occupied Poland. During his time in that post, he instituted a reign of terror against the civilian population and became directly involved in the mass murder of Polish Jews. At the Nuremberg Trial in 1945/46, he was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity and was hanged.Minor scuffing and staining on binding. Slight water staining to bottom edge of some leaves, not affecting text or plates. Binding very good condition, original photographs fine.Unique copy in elaborate binding, presented to one of the most infamous Nazis of the Third Reich.
