Covers, edges, spine ends, spine rubbed, bottom corner missing from one page with small impact on text, bottom endpaper missing half; occasional foxing. Contains "An Address of the Inhabitants of Alexandria in Virginia to General Washington on leaving his house to accept of the Presidency of the United States," and Washington's reply. Contains Benjamin Franklin's "Useful Hints for Learning to Swim ;" "Original Letter from Doctor Franklin to Miss Hubbard on the death of his brother, Mr. John Franklin." "Death of Dr. Franklin;" "Dr. Franklin's Epitaph;" and "Original Poetry. Lines on the Death of Doctor Franklin, by Mr. Lamont." Franklin died in April of 1790. The Universal Magazine was published from 1789-1792 in 8 complete volumes and ceased publication with the second number of volume 9 in 1793. A rare Irish magazine in very good condition internally.
