Title: Untersuchungen zu den lokalen AOAT 257
Book Condition: New
AOAT 257 is a study of the gods and their cults in southern Mesopotamia during the first half of the 2d millennium B.C. The texts used for the study stem mainly from the major political and cultic centers of Uruk, Isin, Larsa, Ur and, foremost, Nippur, the home of the Sumerian culture from the beginning of the 3d millennium B.C. onward. Thomas Richter worked through thousands of documents (religious, cultic letters, administrative, and legal texts) originating from these centers and has drawn a picture of the activities of the official cults in the main temples. His aim is to uncover which god was worshiped in a temple and what his relations to the many other gods venerated in a town were. By this means, Richter has reconstructed the hierarchy of the panthea in mentioned towns. This book will be of special interest for students of the ancient Near Eastern literature and religious development. Bookseller Inventory # RICUNTERS
