About this Item

Front board bowed slightly concave, as required by the odd "folded-under" two-inch wide extension of the same front board, and thus "as made." Hinges and floral endpapers remain lovely. Includes color as well as B&W photographic plates. Touches on moral and physical training; "Choosing a Vocation," etc. Some emphasis placed on the Boy Scouts and the Camp Fire Girls, the latter shown in photographs as young Anglo-Saxon women dressed in full Native American buckskin regalia. As noted, however, while there is NO evidence pages have been torn out, page sequence is very odd, leaving sentences unfinished, imposing even-numbered pages as right-hand-pages, etc. At one point, sequential pages are numbered 266, 276, 283, (unnumbered plate), 294, (two unnumbered plates), 319, 323, 333, 338, 343, 346, 360, 364, 351, 354, 371, (full-page plate), 365, (full-page plate), 389, (full-page plate), 373, 385, 390, etc. This goes far beyond a missing signature or a few transposed pages that might have gone unnoticed. Given the lovely condition of this handsomely produced book, we suspect this is a salesman's sample. Reduced from $60. Bookseller Inventory # 003732
