About this Item

Original brown cloth with gilt lettering and decoration on front cover and spine, blind-stamped lettering and decoration on rear cover, octavo (6.5 x 9.5 inches), pp xii, 13-348. 370 engraved illustrations, chromolithograph plate (Specimens of Tile for Floors) at rear. Together with Frederick Law Olmstead, Calvert Vaux created an entirely new field of architecture - what Lewis Mumford call "Geotect." Their designs for Manhattan's Central Park, and Brooklyn's Prospect Park were prototypes for city greenswards that inspired similar urban open-spaces around the country. The present book contains 39 of Vaux's designs for villas and cottages, some remodels, each with floor plan and exquisite engraving of the building. Expanded from the 1859 first edition with an additional 34 pages and 7 new home plans. Moderate wear to spine ends and corners, scattered foxing, else about very good. Bookseller Inventory # 20890
