Gilt lettering crisply debossed to spine of black, cloth-covered boards. With eight-page, center section, black and white photographs and illustrations. Clean, tight, bright. 314 pp with index. Joseph Wechsberg is an American journalist, musician and lawyer. Wechsberg details the history of the violin, from its invention to the concert stage and amateur string quartet of today, from the 1730 Stradivarius he owns to the three-dollar factory-made instrument he owned when he was 8 years old. There is a section on the construction of the violin and its development and a section on stolen violins. He writes of the cities of Brescia and Cremona which were centers of the craft of violin-making. Wechsberg is also the author of Looking For a Bluebird, which tells of his adventures as ship's fiddler on the old Messageries Maritimes vessels. NEAR FINE in Very Good Plus Dustjacket.
