It is probable that this publication of this part, the first part, preceded publication of the entire book, and, perhaps, was used as an advance copy to demonstrate the quality of reproduction to potential buyers of Garnier's full book. In any case, this is a reproduction of part one and includes plates I-IV, of St. Louis. The plates included are 1) "View of St. Louis from the Illinois Shore", 2) "St. Louis Cathedral", 3) "St. Louis Court House", and 4) "Theatre St. Louis".
