8vo, black and blue cloth, gilt lettered on spine. xix, 423pp., with 78 plates in color after lithographs by Henry Lewis. First complete edition in English, but originally published in German in Dusseldorf in 1854. "Lewis based the work on first hand information gained while living in St. Louis and on trips to the Upper Mississippi in 1846, 1847, and 1848". Inscribed on the title by Jim Post (Mark Twain and the Laughing River, video fame) to another Mark Twain historian. Fine copy in dust jacket which has one short tear. Bookseller Inventory # 07482
