With a reproduction of first edition title page and wrapper for an original monthly issue of this work, which first appeared in 1847. With a handful other black & white illustrations, probably by the author. With an introduction by Joseph Warren Beach. --- In Toledano spine 8 / blue cloth / gilt titling on burgundy cover & spine blocks / red topstain / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style i, verso advertises 403 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1961 (though 1950 date appears in book). ML #131.3. --- An about-Near Fine copy: tightly-bound, bright and unmarked. Unclipped dust jacket ($1.95) also in great shape, though with 3 small tears to edges, else intact and protected in new removable mylar wrapper. ; 12mo 7" - 7-1/2" tall; xxx, 730, [1], [2, ads] pages.
