About this title

Synopsis:

The National Gallery houses priceless art treasures belonging to the nation and has high security. But Velazquez's painting ‘The Prince’ is nevertheless stolen. Commander George Gideon of Scotland Yard knows of only a few thieves at large artful enough to pull off such a heist. However, one obvious suspect turns up dead and Gideon believes there is more to the story than a simple theft, no matter how daring. Then a famous art dealer's daughter is kidnapped and a notorious counterfeiting ring moves into town. Clearly, Gideon is facing something both major and mysterious...

'The King of Crime' wrote an astonishing number of crime and mystery books, selling more than 80 million copies worldwide in 28 languages over five decades. His most famous characters include The Baron, Inspector West, and Gideon. The Creasey Dagger is the UK's top award for first time crime novelists with winners including Patricia Cornwell and Minette Walters. Creasey is an inspiration to the aspiring but as yet unpublished author. He had 743 rejection slips before his first book was accepted. He never stopped believing in himself and he never gave up. He wasn't afraid to take risks either—writing under 10 different names and changing styles with each character.

About the Author:

John Creasey was the seventh of nine children born to Joseph Creasey, a coachmaker, and Ruth Creasey. They were very poor, and John suffered a bout of polio, resulting in his not learning to walk until he was six. He was ten when a schoolmaster suggested he had a gift for writing.

He was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 1946 for services in the United Kingdom's National Savings Movement during World War II. He wrote over 565 books under 25 pseudonyms.

Gordon Griffin is one of the most prolific and sought-after voice artists in the UK. As well as narrating over 700 audiobooks, Gordon can be heard on countless TV and radio advertisements, corporate videos, training films and documentaries.
