About this Item

193 pages, rare auto-biography of Horton Smith the winner of the 1st and 3rd Masters Golf Tournament in 1934 and 1936. Known as "The Joplin Ghost", Smith had a smooth swing. Marian Benton was a member of Detroit Golf Club where Horton served as professional for eighteen years. The title comes from Benton's opinion that Horton used a velvet touch in every phase of his life. Includes a chapter about Smith's battle with Hodgkins Disease and nice black and white pictures of him over the years including one where he meets the Prince of Wales. D & J S23740. Some underlining in the last section of the book, otherwise in very good condition. We specialize in golf books. Bookseller Inventory # 001881
