Publisher's original red cloth decorated with blue and gilt cover design, discoloration to lower half of spine; interior uncut and in excellent condition. First edition. Clement (1834-1916) was an American traveler and writer whose main interests included art, architecture, and the lives of artists (she also devoted a few titles exclusively to women in the arts). After the death of her first husband, she married Edwin Forbes Waters, owner of the Boston Daily Advertiser.
