About this title

Deanna Nikaido's, Vibrating with Silence is a collection of poetry that reads like hot tea by the fireplace. Her words are infused by the stages of tea from seed to ceremony and surrounded by original artwork created by the author herself. Nikaido's writes in a meditative state and her poems are dated, not titled, so readers can feel the intimacy of her words. This book is two-color on the inside. Book Excerpt: If only I could take this breath
and blow the words
from this tangled conversation
into one webless thought
I would be a spider . . . free
from that one unbalanced detail
written in the surface
that assumes there is no certain step
only belly safe
on thin ice
a weightless shadow falling from a branch...

About the Author:

Deanna Nikaido has always loved the mystery of linking the inner world with the outer, and looks for ways to throw paint on the invisible. She is a graduate of Art Center College of Design with a degree in Illustration. For her, writing is a listening process; an unplanned certainty where the penpoint intersects the page and conversation begins.

Nikaido has been featured at many venues including the Capital Bookfest, Martha's Vineyard, American Visionary Art Museum: Rumi Festival, 2007 Baltimore Book Festival, and 2007 BookExpo America. Her poetry is featured in the Spring 2007 Beltway Poetry Quarterly and the 2007 Capitol Bookfest anthology, Family Pictures. She is a featured poet in the September edition of Urban Code Magazine. Nikaido also conducts meditative writing workshops where she infuses the calmness of meditation with the creativity of the pen.

Nikaido is very interested in creating workshops, and mentoring youth who love to write and who want to develop artistic forms of expression. Literacy, particularly the creative aspect, is vastly important to maintaining internal wholeness and connection, a challenge in today's fast paced society.

Nikaido is a native of Denver, and currently resides near her children in Baltimore, Maryland.
