First edition thus. Octavo in original full calf, spine ruled in gilt and with slight evidence of a now-lacking title label. (2) 302 (2). Previous ownership signature and date 1812 on the front free endpaper (along with three small ink blots) and again, without the date, in block lettering along the top edge of the title page. Author's name does not appear on title page of this edition; there is a four page "Preface to Hopkin's Philadelphia Edition" dated May, 1807 and a one-page "Advertisment" by Goldsmith prior to the first page of text of the novel. Very good, mildly rubbed about the egdes and some rounding to the corners; short split to the lower rear outer hinge. Scatter foxing. Bookseller Inventory # E14010
