About this title

Synopsis:

Peeling out from the early punk rock scene (and once fronting his own turbocharged rock 'n roll dragster, Nutrajet) Stainboy's Day-Glo color, powerhouse line work and love of pop culture trash have made his eye-assaulting posters a perennial favorite among rock's cutting edge, including Motorhead, Buzzcocks, Sevendust, High on Fire and Nashville Pussy. Dripping with violent wit and dark humor, Stainboy's posters demand immediate attention, armed with loaded guns, busty broads, gleaming street machines and tributes to classic exploitation cinema.

Stainboy's dossier has grown to include a diversity of work for clients such as the House of Blues, Fuse TV, Club International Magazine, Signatures Network and music venues around the world. His work is featured in The Art of Modern Rock (Chronicle Books), Swag II: Rock Posters of The '90s and Beyond (Abrams), Electric Frankenstein: High Energy Punk Rock & Roll Poster Art (Dark Horse Books) and countless magazines and fanzines.

From Booklist:

Punk rock is Florida-based poster artist Reinel’s muse, but his influences are the comics via movie-poster art. He draws heavily black-outlined figures and fills them in with pure hues shaded by big dots that, of course, recall the color comics in old Sunday newspapers. He riffs on hyperdynamic hot-rod art, such as Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s, that copped from Disney’s and Warners’ funny-animal cartoons (Reinel swipes from those, too). He prefers electric color schemes out of 1960s psychedelia; the contents page herein does a visual wah-wah as neat as any Victor Moscoso ever brought off (see Moscoso’s Sex, Rock & Optical Illusions, 2006). He loves pneumatic women of the Jane Russell–Jayne Mansfield type but also svelter models such as those who graced Milton Caniff’s Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon. And then there’s his fascination with crassly sexy blaxploitation imagery; a band called Nashville Pussy inspired him to the most egregious example: legs are spread. Withal, he never loses an in-your-face but good-timin’ sense of humor, way more southern than Noo Yawk—sweet ’n’ nasty. --Ray Olson
