About this Item

This withdrawn library book is quite intriguing. It is a tribute to Vinnie Ream, an important 19th century sculptor who is only now getting her due. A card is glued to the front endpaper stating that this copy has been given to the Carnegie Library of Homestead, Pennsylvania (one of the first established by Andrew Carnegie to help the working person, and so a nice association in its own right) with the compliments of Brigadier General Richard L. Hoxie, United States Army. He is, of course, the artist's husband and the author of the book. The name of the library is handwritten, but there is no evidence that it is his hand (although it might be). There is a very convincing-looking facsimile signature of the sculptor on the title page. The book is very clean and tight, with few signs of library origin (a card pocket and a call number on the spine, to be exact). A biography of Vinnie Ream, by Gordon langley Hall, published in 1963 by Holt, Rinehart and Winston, is included as a bonus.; Oversize. Bookseller Inventory # 09819
