Synopsis: Virtuoso Piano Technique introduces three highly effective concepts: exercises with a held, supporting finger, the fingering variants, and the rhythmic variants. These kinds of exercises are the most effective and lead to quick progress in attaining technical proficiency and performance ability. The held, supporting finger keeps hands in a balanced position, strengthens the knuckles and finger joints, allows the arm weight delivered into the keys to be easily supported, and enables a quick muscular attack and release. The fingering and rhythmic variants create entirely new exercises, further enhancing the total effectiveness of the book.
Chapter I consist of exercises with patterns of two, three, four, and five notes, and broken thirds, sixths, and octaves. Chapter II develops the movement of the thumb used in the playing of scale and arpeggio passages. In Chapter III the double-note exercises are especially valuable for the balance of the hand, and developing strength in the knuckle and finger joints. The extension exercises in Chapter IV provide training for playing chords, broken chords, and arpeggios, along with the ability to move the arm freely for widely spaced intervals. Chapter V consists of double-note thirds, sixths, and octaves played with a held notes.

I practice my own piano technique books.
One morning I practiced my book, Piano Technique: Intermediate Level Finger Exercises. As I was playing the first exercise of Chapter I, with the fingering in the right hand 1212, on CDCD, I decided to hold down key under my fifth finger, which was G. Playing the exercise this was slightly more difficult, and it produced a different result. I continued to play more of the exercises in the same way, and decided this would be a good thing to work on.
Later I added changes in the rhythm patterns so that with four sixteenth notes every beat, each note is alternative on the beat. This did not create the repetition of the same exercise. This created new exercises which produced a slightly different result and a slightly different improvement.
Three or four months later I had written a new book. It was based on the intermediate book, but with the changes I had made it was a different book which presented new challenges and was slightly more difficult.
The result is, Virtuoso Piano Technique, one in a series.
