About this title

The Vision Thing is a scurrilous satire on the two Bush Presidents, in which father Bush hosts a think-tank seminar at his Kennebunkport estate, with some of the nation's leading politicians and clowns in attendance. The naive narrator, Bill Brock, can't imagine why he, too, has been invited, unless it's a revenge plot to humiliate him over an embarrassing incident years before involving Barbara Bush's underpants. Before accepting the invitation, recalling what Bush Senior referred to as his less-than-inspiring philosophy "the vision thing," Brock ponders his own vision of life which has undergone myriad changes during the second half of the 20t century, with flashbacks to the McCarthy era, a brutal street demonstration in Paris, office sexual fantasies, a devastating industrial accident, and his son's arrest for desecrating the American flag. At the hilarious seminar in Kennebunkport, Brock ultimately arrives at a clearer sense of his own convictions and future direction in life.
