About this Item

Octavo. . First printing with an introduction by Allen Ginsberg. 398pp. A major novel. One of Kerouac's most important works written 1951-1952. Kerouac describes passionately a bygone era, the nostalgia of eating in the American diner, the movie houses where the marquee has the movie title in moveable lettering which oftentimes is misspelled, the jazz clubs, the cheap hotels, the all-night wine-drinking and pot-smoking sessions, even the slang of that era was different; that "cat" today is that "dude". This is Jack Duluoz, the narrator of this book, memories of the towns where he and Cody had walked the streets. Here is the America of the late forties and early fifties that Kerouac knew so well. Unfortunately, it was not published until after his death. Bound in maroon cloth, spine lettering gilt, a fine sharp cornered copy in a near fine unclipped pictorial dust jacket with small area of damp staining near foot. Bookseller Inventory # 021682
