About this Item

16 p. Includes illustrations. Some illustrations in color. This is the newsletter of the Woodside Park Civic Association. Woodside Park was established in the early 1920s, at a time when the Washington, DC metropolitarn region was barely emerging from its rural origins. It was built upon what was part of Alton Farm, formerly owned by Crosby S. Noyes, a notable of the late 19th century. This includes a one page (two column) article on Marian Dirda, a conservator of paper, print and drawings at The National Gallery of Art, who was a member of the team of experts who came together to select the art for the Obama family's private residence in the White House. This brief article, in a publication that has a low print run and is inherently ephemeral, provides a brief but rare look at a little documented aspect of Presidential transitions and domestic life.
