FINE. Large square paperpback. SIGNED by AUTHOR Margaret Wentworth Owings, on half-title page. Uncreased spine, book is as-new. Introduction by Jane Goodall. Mrs. Owings, a former member of the California Parks Commission, led campaigns to protect the world's forests and oceans. The National Audubon Society honored her with a medal in 1983 and in 1998 this year of publication listed her among 100 individuals who had done the most to shape the environmental movement. She died at home in Big Sur CA, January 1999. She sat on the council of the Save-the-Redwoods League and the Big Sur Land Trust. She was a past trustee of Defenders of Wildlife, the African Wildlife Leadership Foundation and the Environmental Defense Fund, and a founder of the Rachel Carson Council. Margaret Wentworth Owings was co-founder of Friends of the Sea Otter and was nationally recognized for her lifetime of commitment to the environment, receiving the National Audubon Society Medal, the United Nations Environment Programs Gold Medal Award and the U.S. Department of the Interiors Conservation Service Award, among others.
